Are Government employees worth more than minimum wage?
Mayor Chris Doherty just recently made headlines when he cut the pay of all Scranton government employees to minium wage. This obviously created a firestorm of anger from all sides at his controversial decision. But was it the right one?
How much money should government workers earn?
Business can only afford to pay people based on how much money the employee generates for the business. The pay should increase as the value increases. So if you drive a truck then you are going to make a large share of the total revenue because the truck cannot move without you. This is why manufacturing jobs have always paid high wages in the past. The item being manufactured has a built in value that the workers provided because they assembled the thing.
What is the product or service that is being provided by the government? What is it actually that they do?
How do you evaluate governments? Obviously Florida is the best state in the United States, one of the reasons is that the government here does not collect income taxes. Does this make our government better than say Illinois or California? Should our government workers earn more since the citizens are getting a better deal?
Should government workers be paid to be rich people like the Kings men? Should they have the biggest houses and drive the nicest cars just because they got a job working at City Hall?
What would help the people? Would the people be better off being taken care of by the government who spends more than they budget like a fat kid eats more cookies than they should? What usually happens when governments spend and spend and borrow and borrow? What is the end result for the people? Governments come and go but the people always remain.
My take on it is simple. The government does not love you they are using you. First many government workers use you for a power trip. Its like they get high off of it or something, if it was a drug it would be called “control”. You can say whatever you want but the government attracts people with this type of personality. Second they tax you. They force you to pay for stuff that’s free like water and then always get caught stealing and inside dealing to buddies. Third they try to take YOUR freedom. Telling you that you can’t do this or you can’t do that or they’ll shoot you or lock you up or taze you bro.
With that said I think you should pay the lowest amount possible to get USED and sometimes abused. What do you think?
